St. Pauli & Dropkick Murphys: You’ll Never Walk Alone!
We’ve been in love for quite a while, so now it’s time to make it official! On March 17th, St. Patricks Day, we proudly announce a major cooperation with Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys. It starts with strictly limited 7” picture disc “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. The track is sung at football clubs around the world, amongst them St. Pauli, and Dropkick Murphys recently covered it for their latest album “11 Short Stories of Pain & Glory”. On top of the 7” we have designed a scarf and an exclusive Dropkick Murphys St. Pauli shirt together – both featuring the line “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.
“It’s a classic song, very popular world wide”, says singer Ken Casey. “The reason we wanted to do this song is because America is facing an epidemic with the amount of people dying and overdosing from opiates. I have probably been to 30 wakes in the last year or so and one day, while I was driving home, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ came on. I listened to the lyrics thinking about how much it applies to people struggling to beat this thing, trying to not give up. You never have to walk alone, even when it’s tough and you’re facing the storm, there’s always people that have your back.”
Dropkick Murphys are based in Boston, Massachusetts and even if baseball is way more popular there, the band has had a soft spot for the FC St. Pauli for a long time. They’ve even become familiar faces at St. Pauli hang outs including the Jolly Roger – a bar that perfectly fits their rowdy beer-punk shout-alongs. Since starting out in 1996 Dropkick Murphys have released nine albums. They made a name for themselves through constant worldwide touring and yearly St. Patrick’s Week shows in Boston. Their cooperation with St. Pauli will continue.
